23 January, '10
I spent the weekend visiting friends and family in Menomonie. Saturday we had a surprise birthday party for my mother-in-law's 89th birthday and cousin Orv's 75th (164 years all together), all covertly organized by Orv's older daughter Erika and Karolynn. Folks came from Baron and Hammond and Bloomer and all the way from Ladysmith, as well as Superior to give their best wishes and felicitations. We had moved Ruby off the family farm and into an apartment in town a year ago September and wondered and worried how she would fare after 60+ years in the country, but she has taken very well to her new life. She has kept her old friends, made some new ones and keeps busy. We all look forward to her celebrating her 90th next January. And now that we no longer have the farm to visit we stayed with good friends from Colorado who had moved back to Menomonie. Loren and Judy now run a B&B overlooking the Red Cedar River just outside of town. It was great to see them and have a chance to catch up. If you are traveling through town be sure to stay at the Country Comfort B&B. It is bright and airy with a great sense of warmth and hospitality, and Loren will make you a breakfast that cannot be beat.
On to the west again,
Jim & Ole Yeller
