Day Twelve

19 January, '10

As the fog lifts this morning and my journey continues north I am struck by the difference in traffic. Leaving the Kansas City area there are noticeably fewer truckers on I-35. The constant stream of truck traffic on the major east-west routes is replaced by a steady but lighter flow. I also notice no major truck stops between Kansas City and Des Moines, another indication that the regular flow is considerably less. And sure enough, when I get to I-80, this east-west route is once again crowded with rigs moving goods and materiel. Today my big concern is the weather, which aside from going back to winter, cold and windy, brings with it the forecast of a good old fashioned ice storm. We are predicted to have freezing rain/fog/mist. I noticed coming into southern Iowa that the trees have indeed been flocked with a heavy coating of rime, but only on one side. It may be time, like our trucking friends do in this weather, to hunker down.

Till tomorrow, keepin' the shiny side up,

Jim & Ole Yeller
