Day Six

13 January, '09

After a long day of driving and shooting I arrived in Flagstaff last night to finally eat some really terrific food. The Timberbox Kitchen on South San Francisco St. was opened last summer by Kevin (a recovering attorney from Phoenix) and Scott Heinonen and serves wonderful self described "comfort food redesigned." After some of the road food over the past five days it was indeed a treat to eat such dishes as scallops with creamed escarole and wild rice hush puppies and homemade pheasant paté. If you're going through Flagstaff be sure to give them a try. Today turned out to be one of those days when I thought I wasn't going to get anything of true interest. However, the day was turned on its head when I discovered a new truck stop in Winslow that truckers were flocking in to try. There I met Daniel Gibson, an independent trucker from Aurora, CO. On his way to Liberal, Kansas and then to Omaha with a load of Asian food he picked up in Los Angles yesterday. I rode a ways down the road with him and once again had met an amiable and outgoing friend of the road. We look forward to seeing Daniel in the Denver Center Theatre with lots of his friends when Mama Hated Diesels opens.
