Day Two

10 January, '10

The portion of I-10 from Phoenix to the California border is an interesting and heavily travelled corridor of truckers, vacationers and public safety employees: Sheriffs, State Troopers and Border Patrol and ICE. It is populated with small truck stops in places known through trucking song legend such as Tonopah and full of friendly truckers from all over. I met truckers from Pinnacle, North Carolina; a couple from Fontana, Ca who had spent Christmas in Maryland, New Years in Baton Rouge, then back home and now were on their way to Dallas and finally an Independent trucker from Fresno. I don't know how many Sikh's I'll see, but Harpal Singh who I met at the small Zip Truck Stop between Tonopah and Quartzsite was a wonderful cordial and amiable fellow worthy of the picture of the day. On to Bakersfield.
